Choosing a Local TV Service: What to Look For

Choosing a streaming TV service shouldn't feel like a gamble. Here are the things worth checking before you pay, and exactly how Tdot Media Plus handles each one.

A free trial, before any money changes hands

The simplest way to know whether a service suits your home is to watch on your own TV, on your own internet, for a day. No description of a channel list tells you as much as a few hours of actual viewing.

Every new household gets a free 24-hour trial at tdot-media.com/trial. There's no card needed and nothing to cancel. It's also the reason our refund policy is what it is: if you change your mind before your account is activated we refund you in full, but once an account is live there are no refunds — so we'd rather you test first.

No contracts, and a plan size that matches your household

Look for month-to-month terms you can step away from. We don't use contracts — you choose 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and that's the whole commitment.

Our three plans each cover one device. Standard is $13 a month with 5,000+ channels, 720p HD and 20,000 movies and series, with new titles added monthly. Premium is $15 a month with 10,000+ channels, Full HD and 30,000 movies and series, added weekly. Enhanced is $20 a month with 20,000+ channels, Full HD and 4K and 50,000 movies and series, added daily. All prices are plus 13% HST.

If more than one TV is on at once, the Family package is $15 per device per month and covers 2 to 4 devices at the same time. The cheapest way to watch is Standard on 12 months, which works out to $10 a month — $120 for the year, a saving of $36, plus HST.

  • Standard — $13/month, one device, plus HST
  • Premium — $15/month, one device, plus HST
  • Enhanced — $20/month, one device, plus HST
  • Family package — $15 per device per month, 2 to 4 devices, plus HST
  • Terms of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, with no contract

Help setting up the device you already own

A good service should work with the equipment in your living room rather than forcing you to buy something new. Smart TVs, Android boxes, MAG and Formuler boxes, Firesticks, phones and computers all work with us. You will need to be comfortable following a few setup steps, and our team emails instructions for your specific device.

We also keep written guides on the site so you can follow along at your own pace: Firestick at tdot-media.com/tutorials/firestick, Android boxes at tdot-media.com/tutorials/android-box, MAG boxes at tdot-media.com/tutorials/mag-box, Formuler at tdot-media.com/tutorials/formuler, and Samsung and LG Smart TVs at tdot-media.com/tutorials/smart-tv. For apps, see tdot-media.com/tutorials/iptv-smarters and tdot-media.com/tutorials/tivimate.

If you'd rather not set anything up, the XTV Air Pro box arrives ready to go. It's $165 plus tax with a 1-year warranty, ships within 24 hours of payment with tracking by email, and takes 3–5 business days inside Toronto.

A straightforward way to reach us

Being able to ask a question quickly matters more than any feature list. You can call or text 647-424-4070 at any time — an AI assistant answers, takes down the details, and our tech team follows up by email. You can also write to support@tdot-media.com directly.

We're fully online and based in Toronto, so there's no shop to visit. After you order, our team emails your login details; activation usually takes 15 to 20 minutes after payment, and occasionally a few hours when we're busy. Check your spam folder, and if nothing has arrived, tdot-media.com/tutorials/no-login-email walks you through it.

Honest answers about what the service needs to run well

Any service worth joining will tell you its requirements up front. Ours is internet speed: you need at least 30 Mbps reaching the TV or box you actually watch on. Test it by opening fast.com in that device's browser rather than relying on the speed printed on your bill.

Any Toronto home internet plan that delivers that speed works, whether it's cable, fibre or condo Wi-Fi. A wired connection, one of our recommended apps and a device with enough memory make the biggest difference to picture quality. If things stutter, tdot-media.com/tutorials/buffering covers the usual causes.

We've run Tdot Media Plus with a local team since 2016, and payment is by Interac e-Transfer with auto-deposit — so no security question — or by Visa or Mastercard.
