Getting started

Finding TV Channels in Your Family's Language

In a lot of homes across the GTA, one person watches in English, another watches in the language they grew up with, and the kids switch between both. This guide explains how to find out what a plan carries in your languages before you spend anything.

Updated October 2026 · Tdot Media Plus, Toronto

Start with the languages your household actually watches in

Before you compare plans or prices, make a short list of the languages your family watches in. In Toronto and the surrounding cities that list is often two or three long — English plus Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Polish, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean or Somali, to name only some of them.

It also helps to note what kind of viewing matters most in each language. News in the morning, films on the weekend and children's programming are three very different things, and being specific makes it much easier for our team to give you a straight answer.

Ask us what a plan carries before you buy

You don't have to guess. Call or text 647-424-4070 any time — an AI assistant takes your message and our tech team replies by email — or write to support@tdot-media.com. We've been a local Toronto team since 2016, and a question about languages is one of the most common ones we get.

The more detail you give us, the better the answer. A message with the points below usually gets everything sorted in one reply.

  • The languages you want, listed plainly
  • What you mostly watch in each one — news, movies, series or kids' programming
  • How many people will be watching at the same time
  • The device you plan to use, such as a Smart TV, Firestick, Android box, MAG or Formuler box, phone or computer
  • Your city or neighbourhood, so we can point you to the right local page

The free trial is the honest way to check

An email from us is a good start, but seeing it on your own TV is better. Every new household gets a free 24-hour trial with no card needed at tdot-media.com/trial, and that's the fairest way to confirm the languages you care about are there and look the way you expect.

Use the trial the way you'd use the service on a normal evening. Sit down with whoever watches in each language, let them look around, and check the picture on the TV you'll really be using. It's also worth knowing that once an account has been activated there are no refunds, which is exactly why we offer the trial first.

How the plans differ, and which one suits a multilingual home

All three plans are built the same way, with the difference being how much is included. Standard is $13 a month with 5,000+ channels, 720p HD and 20,000 movies and series, with new titles added monthly. Premium is $15 a month with 10,000+ channels, Full HD and 30,000 movies and series, added weekly. Enhanced is $20 a month with 20,000+ channels, Full HD and 4K, and 50,000 movies and series, added daily. All prices are plus 13% HST.

Those three plans each cover one device. If different family members want to watch in different languages at the same time, the Family package is $15 per device per month, plus HST, for 2 to 4 devices at once. There are no contracts — you can take 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and the cheapest way to watch is Standard on 12 months at $10 a month, which is $120 for the year plus HST and saves $36.

Make sure it plays properly once you've found it

Finding the right channel is only half of it — it also has to play smoothly. You need at least 30 Mbps reaching the actual TV or box you watch on. Open fast.com in that device's browser to test it there rather than next to your router, and use a wired connection where you can.

The app matters too. We recommend IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate, MYTVOnline, STB Emulator Pro and Smart STB. Step-by-step guides are on our site for Firestick (tdot-media.com/tutorials/firestick), Android boxes and the XTV Air Pro (tdot-media.com/tutorials/android-box), MAG (tdot-media.com/tutorials/mag-box), Formuler (tdot-media.com/tutorials/formuler) and Samsung and LG Smart TVs (tdot-media.com/tutorials/smart-tv).

If something stutters or a single channel won't load, start with tdot-media.com/tutorials/buffering or tdot-media.com/tutorials/black-screen. If the TV guide comes up empty, tdot-media.com/tutorials/empty-tv-guide walks you through it.
